The French footballer William Saliba has been named the new captain for Lyon following his impressive debut in the team’s first game against Montpellier.
Saliba, who joined Lyon from Manchester United in 2018, made his debut on Saturday night and scored two goals as the club defeated the visitors 4-0.
However, he was unable to make a full start due to injury and was substituted off the pitch after just 26 minutes, leaving coach Didier Deschamps to hand him the captaincy.
Saliba himself praised his performance, saying: "It was an amazing feeling to be given the captaincy but I'm still learning about my role in this squad."
